Grande ritorno di Honda

Helder Rodrigues will be taking part in the Dakar as captain of an official Honda team that will also boast Felipe Zanol and Johnny Campbell, with the podium as their goal… or even better.

The first signs were already decisive over the last few years, with the reappearance of Honda bikes on the Dakar bivouac, as well as at the top of the standings. Paulo Gonçalves, like Quinn Cody, have both finished the rally in the Top 10 behind the handlebars of a CRF 450 X. However, this season, the involvement of the Japanese manufacturer in creating an official team could make an even more dramatic change to the situation in the bike category.
Yesterday, the full team was introduced to the motorbike exhibition taking place in Cologne. Honda evidently aims to play a major role next January, because it has hired the services of Helder Rodrigues, 3rd in the last two editions of the Dakar, as well as Felipe Zanol, 10th on his first participation in 2012. The leading Portuguese rider will enjoy especially good back-up, because Johnny Campbell, who made hsi return to the Dakar last year as Robby Gordon’s co-pilot, has climbed back on the bike, 12 years after having finsihed in 8th place. To allow the brand to reacquaint itself with victory on the Dakar (having picked up 5 titles during the 1980’s), Team HRC is counting on a re-design of the CRF 450 X Enduro model, which will be especially enhanced by a new electronic injection system, providing gains in performance and reliability.
